Diavolo's dancers, gymnasts, athletes and actors explore the space where reality ends and imagination begins in their daring new program "Architecture in Motion". Outrageous, surrealistic sets play an essential role in each of the evening's works, in which the daredevil dance company takes athleticism to the extreme to create abstract narratives that showcase the interplay between architecture and movement. For its return to Houston, Diavolo will perform the final work of a trilogy created specifically for the Hollywood Bowl, titled "Fluid Infinities", as part of its program. Choreographed to Philip Glass' Symphony No. 3, this work is set on an abstract dome structure on which performers explore metaphors of infinite space, continuous movement and humanity's voyage into an unknown future. It's 1960 and Parisian lothario Bernard has it good. His three fiancées -- one French, one German and one American -- are all beautiful airline hostesses with frequent (but never overlapping) layovers in Paris. And thanks to Bernard's faithful maid, who swaps out the photographs in his apartment according to schedule, the women will never find out about each other. That is until a new, faster Boeing jet throws the airline schedules out of whack and Bernard finds himself with all three women on his hands at once. Throw in Bernard's friend, who's hilariously bad at keeping all the lies straight, and the whole plan is poised to fall apart. This slapstick farce from French playwright Marc Camoletti has been performed in London and on Broadway and was made into a 1965 film starring Tony Curtis and Jerry Lewis. [less-]
